The Dream Academy is the newest program we have started at Columbia County Community Connections. This program is currently under the supervision of our Chief Operating Officer, Teka Allen, and its team members are: Chief Executive Officer, Julie Miller, Creative Director, Eric Bates, Director of Special Projects, Stephanie Miller, and Director of Planned Giving, Paige Miller. Our first training was held in Gainesville, Georgia on Friday, August 5th.
The Dream Academy is a venture that we hope will extend after-school and summer opportunities to more youth in Columbia County and throughout the state. It is our goal to partner with many new organizations to help provide the training and technical support needed to create and operate quality after-school and summer programs. Our highly trained staff can help churches, civic groups, schools, child care agencies, and other non-profits to start after-school programs that address the needs of young people.
We received extremely positive feedback from our first training and have already begun to set dates for future trainings. Positive youth development is the basis of our material and we ensure that all of the material engages learning experiences, creates a positive and motivational atmosphere, connects to academics, and helps to build lasting relationships — these are the essentials of an after-school program. This program is funded by the United Way of the CSRA. Columbia County Community Connections became a United Way Agency in 2011.
