The 21st Century Community Learning Center grants administered through the Georgia Department of Education are Columbia County Community Connections’ largest funding source. This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend schools with at least a 40% free and reduced lunch rate. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. Our after-school programs are currently based in Grovetown and Harlem, but with the help of 21st Century, we hope to expand to more schools in Columbia County.
To help a family with a child who recently had brain surgery, Advanced Services provided two free visits to rid their home of a pest infestation. By Advanced Services donating their time and skills, the family is able to keep their house clean and safe for their child. We thank them greatly for making a difference in this family’s life.
